REDS MAKE BABEL BID - AGENT

Liverpool have made an offer for Ajax winger Ryan Babel, according to the player's agent.

The 21 year-old enhanced his growing reputation at the European Under-21 Championship in Holland this summer and had been tipped for a move to Arsenal and Newcastle.

He is also quoted as saying he would like to play for Arsenal in the future, but it now appears his future could lie at Anfield.

Boss Rafael Benitez is in the market for wingers and the player's agent Winnie Haatrecht revealed a bid has already been made to Ajax.

He told Dutch magazine Sportweek: "I won't say anything about the amounts currently mentioned, however I can confirm Ajax have received an official bid from Liverpool.

"Ryan has not spoken with the club.

"Only if Ajax tell us they have an agreement, and state we can talk, will phase two begin.

"In that phase you will look at what Liverpool want, what their plans are with Babel.

"After that, the financial part will come, but it's not that far.

"First, we have to wait for both clubs to get a deal.
