BARNES TO MISS SEASON`S START

Derby midfielder Giles Barnes is likely to miss the start of the season after suffering a setback in his rehabilitation from a broken foot.

The 18-year-old suffered the injury in the play-off final victory over West Brom but was expected to recover in time for the Rams' pre-season preperations.

However the injury has taken longer to heal than expected, meaning Barnes is highly unlikely to make his side's Premier League opener against Portsmouth on August 11.

Billy Davies told the Derby Evening Telegraph: "Giles has been told he must rest for two or three more weeks and then he will have another scan. The injury has not healed as quickly as would have liked."
